Effective June 1st, 2020 PowerTime began warning all users who access PowerTime using Internet Explorer that they are using an unsupported browser and some features may not function properly. We recommend you upgrade to a modern browser.
There are many reasons that went into our decision to no longer support Internet Explorer.
Internet Explorer 11 was replaced in 2015 with the release of Microsoft Edge. Since that time it has only received minimal updates and no longer has kept up with the technology of modern websites. By failing to meet current web standards we can’t provide tools and features that fully embrace those standards. This results in a worse user experience for all of our users. After five years, the gap between updated browsers and Internet Explorer has become enormous.
Microsoft has long warned about security issues when using Internet Explorer. In 2019, Microsoft’s Chief of Security wrote an article about the "perils of using Internet Explorer as your default browser".
Only a small percentage of our users continue to use Internet Explorer. While we would love to support as many browsers as possible, the simple fact is we can not build new easy to use, powerful, and secure features with outdated technology. The small number of users who continue to use Internet Explorer does not justify holding back updates that can’t run on Internet Explorer.
Finally, our support team may not be able to provide technical support for issues that arise only on Internet Explorer. As a company policy, our support team is explicitly directed to not use Internet Explorer to ensure the security of their computers. We take security very seriously and can not allow our employees to use insecure software while on our network. This makes it extremely difficult to diagnose and support issues specific to Internet Explorer.
We strongly recommend using one of the three modern browsers: Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, or Mozilla Firefox. These browsers are still being actively developed and conform to all the latest web and security standards. This recommendation matches those made by developers of Internet Explorer themselves and computer security experts.
We will not actively block or prevent you from using Internet Explorer to access PowerTime -- but we can no longer guarantee all of our features will work flawlessly or appear in the same way as they do on a recommended browser. We may make updates in the future that further this divide in experiences for Internet Explorer users.
